SP Fredericton is inviting everyone interested in ecosocialism to join a weekly SPF discussion group starting in October 2026. The discussion will be downtown on Saturday afternoons starting at 1 PM for about an hour and a half.
Our focus will be the ecosocialism work of John Bellamy Foster. JB Foster is editor of the independent socialist magazine Monthly Review, published monthly in New York City since 1949 and openly available online. JB Foster has written extensively about capitalism and the environment, the anthropocene, ecological revolution, fossil capital, and energy and climate, among many other issues of concern to socialists. He has clarified Marxist thinking on key environmental issues in the age of climate catastrophe.
The reading group facilitator Hugh Williams and SPF hive member Susan O’Donnell chose seven texts published in Monthly Review authored or co-authored by JB Foster. Each week we will discuss one of the texts.
The intention is that everyone attending will read the text prior to the meeting and come prepared to engage in the discussion. Anyone who hasn’t read the text before the meeting is requested to skip it that week and prepare for the next meeting instead.
